AFAF Announces 2017 Salute to our Troops & Golf Classic Plans

American Friends of our Armed Forces has announced plans for its 2017 Salute to our Troops and Golf Classic. The popular event will once again be held at Toscana Country Club, Indian Wells, California with the dates this year being April 11 & 12, 2017.

AFAF’s Salute to our Troops Reception and Dinner being held April 11 will feature Marine Sergeant Dakota Meyer (Retired), recent recipient of the Presidential Medal of Honor, as the event’s keynote speaker.  Attendees will have the opportunity for a personal picture with Sergeant Meyer.

AFAF is also pleased to announce world famous rhythm painter David Garibaldi will perform his well known “Rhythm and Hue” stage act in which he rapidly creates paintings. Mr. Garibaldi was a finalist in the seventh season of America's Got Talent and has performed at major events throughout the country.

Hosting Troops A Rewarding Experience

AFAF has announced its 10th Annual Adopt a Marne for Thanksgiving Program with over 350 of America’s Heroes scheduled to be hosted by Coachella Valley families.

AFAF Adopt a Marine

AFAF started the program to bring together young Marines who are away from home with families that want to provide the troops with a very special Thanksgiving.

Ten valley clubs are combining to provide more than 175 host families for the day. Families interested in hosting Marines can sign up beginning October 1, 2016. Click “Read More” for the full story and details.

Support our Veterans, November 7th at La Quinta Cliffhouse & Pacifica Seafood Restaurant!
With Veteran’s Day only a few weeks away, La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar and Pacifica Seafood Restaurant have announced a special promotion honoring veterans and active duty military personnel with a free entree on Monday, November 7, 2016. The restaurants are also planning to donate 10% of the day’s sales to American Friends of our Armed Forces. AFAF is an all volunteer, not for profit charity that assists military families meet the many financial, emotional and social challenges they face while serving our country.


La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar and Pacifica Seafood Restaurant are regarded as two of the highest quality restaurants in the valley. They have both been strong supporters of our military and helpful to AFAF during its annual spring Salute to our Troops. AFAF plans to use the proceeds it receives from the day’s sales at the restaurants to support programs benefitting military families.

You can rally to support this special promotion by calling the restaurants today for reservations. We would like to have a record turn out!

7th Annual Military Appreciation Golf Tournament Plans Announced!
AFAF Tournament Director Fred Nothdurft has announced the charity’s 7th Annual Military Appreciation Golf Tournament will be held at the prestigious Classic Club in Palm Desert, California on Monday, November 21, 2016.

The annual event is a day of celebrating our troops with a fun day on a world class golf course, outstanding food and lots of gifts and prizes for the troops.


The tournament honors more than 80 Marines from 4 southwestern U.S. military bases. Civilian sponsors have the option of playing and sponsoring Marines in the event or if unable to play being a sponsor for one or more Marines.


The well known Classic Club has been the host club for all 7 years and provides a wonderful day beginning with a delicious breakfast followed by play on a championship golf course and a fantastic buffet lunch to wrap up the day.

A group of more than 30 key AFAF supporters visited the Marine Air Ground Combat Center at 29 Palms for a tour of combat training sites and activities.

Viewing the combat training made the group realize why America’s military are the most well trained and prepared in the world.

AFAF Military Support Reaches $2.5 Million

American Friends of our Armed Forces announced financial support for military programs has reached $2.5 million since the charity was formed in 2005. Support for 2015 exceeded $200,000.

AFAF provides a wide range of financial assistance from items shipped to troops in combat zones to program support for military families stationed at southwestern U.S. bases.

Walter VanBenthuysen, President of AFAF, announced 2016 trends indicate the charity will exceed 2015 levels of military support. Read More
